Wexford Tidy Towns Committee
Wexford Tidy Towns Committee was established in 2000. The aim of the Committee is to make Wexford an attractive and inviting town for locals and visitors alike. Many members of the public made favourable comment on the various floral displays in the town during 2006. These will be re-introduced in 2007 and also a ground planting plan shall be carried out to ensure colour in the many green areas of
In order to achieve these objectives, Wexford Tidy Towns Committee work from a five year plan. This plan adopts a holistic and varied approach to a wide range of areas. The following is a list of the main elements of the plan:-
- To increase community participation and linkage with all sectors of the community, e.g., business, schools, tourism, youth groups, sports clubs, churches etc.
- To promote and create wild life habitats in the town.
- To maintain and enhance the heritage of Wexford.
- To eliminate dereliction in the town.
- Schools Project.
- Anti-litter initiatives and regular clean-ups.
- To improve the presentation of buildings.
- Waste minimisation and recycling initiatives.
Wexford Borough Council works closely with Wexford Tidy Towns Committee and offers both practical and financial support.
The Tidy Towns Committee is always anxious to attract further volunteers to help in their work. Much of the work involves planting/gardening and may suit the many keen gardeners in the town.
